10 eco-friendly Airbnbs for your next UK holiday

Just a few of the top locations (Picture: Airbnb)

With overseas holidays still up in the air, UK staycations are looking like a safe bet this summer.

Not to mention staying closer to home is better for the planet as well.

Thankfully, the UK has all sorts of gorgeous spots to offer – many of which have fantastic green credentials.

Ahead of Earth Day, which is tomorrow April 22, the team at Hive have rounded up some of the most eco-friendly Airbnbs in the UK.

These are the locations that made it into the top 10…

Great for literature lovers (Picture: Airbnb)

If you’re a fan of JRR Tolkien, this hobbity hideaway is the ultimate fantasy retreat.

Located near the Scottish Moray coast, the home is built with locally sourced and up-cycled materials and is decorated with recycled furnishings – it also runs on 100% renewable energy.

Perfect for groups of six, it boasts calming wild gardens and an enchanting al fresco dining set up.

Something a little different (Picture: Airbnb)

This upcycled hut is a converted 1945 boat, which originally sailed out of Penzance in Cornwall.

The rustic property features renewable energy through its solar panel system and is set within a private forest.

Be sure to take a dip in the outdoor roll top bath, too.

So futuristic (Picture: Airbnb)

Sit and admire the stars in the quirky airship, designed by ecological architect Roderick James.

The insulated aluminium pod with dragonfly windows offers incredible views of the Highlands.

A wooden masterpiece (Picture: Airbnb)

Toast marshmallows by the campfire and enjoy a soak in the hot tub with this woodland wagon getaway.

To keep things as sustainable as possible, superhost Ralph even built the wagon’s main beam himself, from a tree that fell down in a storm.

A nautical paradise (Picture: Airbnb)

This coastal property is powered solely by solar and wind energy – for the ultimate eco-friendly retreat.

The nautical theme runs throughout the cosy space and there’s room for five guests.

With a bird reserve, sailing club and beachy walks close by, you can fully immerse yourself in the scenery.

Tucked away from the world (Picture: Airbnb)

Fancy something more off-grid? This eco-tree house in West Devon is nestled above a lake and comes with fresh drinking water provided from a bowser and a composting sawdust toilet house.

Something a bit more historical (Picture: Airbnb)

This 18th century converted barn merges old and new, featuring an oak-beamed living area alongside an ultra-efficient air-source heat pump. This adorable countryside spot in Falfied nods to history whilst looking ahead to a more eco-friendly future.

So cute (Picture: Airbnb)

Perfect for couples looking for a cosy eco-retreat, this lovely cottage generates its own electricity.

The owners have their own vegetables, fruit and herbs growing in the garden and keep chickens for eggs – to keep things self-sufficient.

The property is even Green Key rated and holds a Green Tourism Gold award.

Secluded and quiet (Picture: Airbnb)

Great for families, this roundhouse is made up of a double mezzanine bedroom and a cute space kitted out with children’s beds. The space is heated solely by a wood burner and there’s no WiFi, to make it a truly remote experience.

The ultimate eco-property (Picture: Airbnb)

This sustainable bungalow is a renovated barn located in an old vineyard near the Cornish coast and ticks all the green boxes. It’s built with a large solar PV system, heat recovery set-up and its own water supply – so during the summer months it’s entirely self-sufficient.
