Zoe Kravitz series High Fidelity has been cancelled after only one season – despite being a critical success.

The gender-bent version of the Nick Hornby novel, which had previously been made into a smash-hit movie with John Cusack, will now be added to our all time, top five cancellations of 2020.

The cast and crew were notified of the decision on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking of the cancellation, Zoe shared photos from the set and confirmed the news as she wrote: ‘I wanna give a shout out to my #highfidelity family. Thank you for all the love and heart you put into this show.

‘I’m in awe of all of you. and thank you to everyone who watched, loved and supported us. #breakupssuck’

In the series, Zoe starred as Rob, a music-loving New Yorker who owns a record store, as she handles her latest relationship breaking down.

When discovering her ex has returned to town, Rob talks us through the biggest breakups in her life via a ‘top five’ chart list.

Despite initial apprehension against the show by those that love the book and movie, the series proved to be a hit – with an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.7 on IMDb.

Launching on Valentine’s Day this year, Zoe spoke about the show and told Rolling Stone: ‘To be completely honest, when I heard that they were making a remake, or a reboot — however you want to call it — I had two reactions.

‘One was “Ooh!” and the other one was “Oh”. Because I’m such a fan of the book and the movie, I’m very protective of [them].’

‘I wanted to make sure that it was done with the right intentions,’ she added. ‘There was a punk spirit and an angsty, punky tone to this romantic comedy.

‘That’s part of why we’ve all fallen in love with that world. I felt like I had a responsibility there.’

In the movie, Zoe’s mother, Lisa Bonet, starred as a soul singer who becomes one of Rob’s lovers.

Zoe starred alongside Jake Lacy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, David H. Holmes and Kingsley Ben-Adir.

High Fidelity is available on Hulu in the US.
