Yakuza Remastered Collection brings Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 to PS4

The Yakuza Remastered Collection – Yakuza 5 won’t be out till next year

You’ll soon be able to play every mainline Yakuza game on the PlayStation 4, as Sega announces remasters of the last three remaining games.

Yakuza fans will at last be able to complete an entire marathon of the series on PlayStation 4, as Sega announce a new set of remasters.

In a way that’s bad news because it presumably means there’ll never be a Yakuza Kiwami 3 and onwards, but that always seemed unlikely as while Yakuza 1 and 2 were originally PlayStation 2 games the third entry started out on the PlayStation 3.

That’s why Sega can get away with just remasters instead of full remakes, but there still seems to be quite a lot of work being done on the games – with all previously cut content being reinstated.

The PlayStation 3 era games had a number of side-stories cut from the Western releases, as well as a cabaret mini-game, massage parlour, and the likes of mahjong and shogi.

All the games will be getting a new translation, plus the option to toggle between English and Japanese lyrics in karaoke, and a new tracker to keep on top of sub-stories.

In terms of the game itself the resolution will be boosted to 1080p and the frame rate to 60fps, which is quite the upgrade on the 720p and 30fps originals.

Despite what the name Yakuza Remastered Collection implies the individual titles are being released one at a time, with Yakuza 3 out now, Yakuza 4 on 29 October, and Yakuza 5 on 11 February next year.

You have to pay £49.99 for all of them up front or you can wait till 11 February when they’re all out and a physical edition will also be released.

The complete run of games encompasses Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2, the Yakuza Remastered Collection, and Yakuza 0 and 6 – both of which were already native PlayStation 4 games.

A seventh game is underway at the moment but it will feature a new protagonist, meaning that the entire saga of Kazuma Kiryu will shortly be available on just one console.
