Wrecking Crew and Donkey Kong 3 coming to Switch Online's NES library next week

And there’s a rewind feature due on the same day.

Another batch of NES titles is heading to Nintendo’s Switch Online service next week, on 17th July, and the whole library is getting a new rewind feature on the same day.

Joining Nintendo’s library of over 40 NES titles next week are Donkey Kong 3 and Wrecking Crew. The first, released in 1983, sees video gaming’s beloved primate returning for a third series instalment, which notably ditches its predecessors’ girder traversal formula in favour of something closer to shooting action. Oh, and Mario is no longer the protagonist.

Instead, players take on the role of an exterminator called Stanley, charged with navigating a small series of ledges while attempting to protect flowers, blast bugs, and force Donkey Kong (hanging from vines above) back to the top of the screen using insect repellant.

Those missing Mario needn’t fear, however; the plumber returns in next week’s second NES offering, Wrecking Crew, which originally released in 1985. This platform puzzler sees Mario and Luigi trying their hand at a new vocation, with the goal being to plan a route around a level, then dash about, hammer aloft, to clear it of destructible objects.

As part of next week’s update, all NES titles available to subscribers of Nintendo’s online service will gain a nifty new rewind function. This enables players to hold down ZL + ZR at any point to wind backward through the action and remedy any mistakes, or simply try a section again.
