Woman confronts fiancé after humiliating visit to Tiffany to have ring resized

A man accused his fiancée of ‘checking up on him’ after she told him about her embarrassing experience when she went to have her engagement ring resized.

The woman explains that her partner popped the question at Christmas and ‘everything was perfect’.

The ring he had proposed to her was a little too big, but she had held off having it altered as she was working towards hitting her weight goal and wanted to ensure it fitted correctly when she achieved it.

She was ‘over the moon’ with the Tiffany and Co. ring he had picked out, and told him that he shouldn’t have spent so much on her – but he insisted he wanted her to have the iconic blue box.

When the time came recently to have it properly fitted, her friend told her she should only go directly to Tiffany to carry out work on one of their own rings.

She waited until she had reached her weight loss goal to have it resized

“They take the ring and ask my for my fiancé’s info to look up in their system,” she wrote. “They can’t find it and she takes the ring in the back.

“The manager comes back a little while after and says that this isn’t a Tiffany and Co ring and shows me there’s no engraving inside.”

At first she thought her fiancé had bought a second hand ring and had been duped, but when he returned home she asked him where he had got it from.

He said he had got it at the store and gave the specific location, and stuck with the story when she asked if he had got it online, assuring him ‘it was okay if he did’.

“He flipped out and said no it’s new from the store,” she continued. “I fessed up and told him what happened with the sizing.

She was told to postpone the wedding

“He flipped out and said that I was checking up on him and snooping for the price, etc. I was firm and said no I just wanted it resized and they told me it’s not from their company. He said that they’re wrong and he got it there.

“He told me that I should have consulted him and he would of had it sized for me and that it feels like I’m going behind his back.

“I’m confused by this because I thought it was a simple task that I didn’t need him for.

“Anyway, he won’t really talk about where he got the ring and is only saying that he will size it and took the ring.”

Others on Reddit told her the exchange was a ‘worrying sign’, with one writing: “He’s mad at you because he is lying to you and got found out.

“I’m not a fancy ring person but this is a symbol of your love and relationship – if he wanted to get a cheaper ring fine. It’s the lying and playing games. You can’t trust this guy.

“He’s lying about other things too, this is a huge red flag. He had to go out of his way to get the box.”

Another said: “Put the wedding plans on hold until he comes clean. It’s one thing to screw up and accidentally buy a fake. It’s another thing for him to lie about where he got it when directly asked, double-down on the lie when you give him evidence of his lie, gaslight you about things you know to be true, jump to accusing you of things out of the blue, and tell you that you need his permission to size your ring.

“At least if you call off the engagement, you can give back the ring without worrying about losing anything of value.”
