Woman, 38, fears she could be pregnant 15 years after husband had a vasectomy

SURPRISE pregnancies do happen – but one woman had a very good reason to be certain it wouldn’t to to her.

The 38-year-old asked the internet whether she really could be expecting a baby, despite her husband having had a vasectomy 15 years ago.

In a post on Mumsnet titled ‘To think I could be pregnant 15 years post vasectomy?’, she revealed that she’d been having familiar pregnancy symptoms even though her other half had undergone the surgical procedure – which, according to the NHS, involves cutting or sealing the tubes that carry a man’s sperm.

“My periods are like clockwork … if not to the day, certainly within two days later,” the woman wrote.

“I started with the stomach cramps two weeks ago but no period. All PMS symptoms gone now.

“I’m almost two months late. Darling Husband had vasectomy 15 years ago yet I read online that it can repair itself after ten years.”

The poster continued: “Darling Husband won’t hear any of it and says it impossible.

“Last week I fainted twice. Went for blood test and DR asked if I had history of fainting.

“I said ‘only when pregnant’ and that’s when it hit me.

“Yes I know the obvious answer would be to do a test but I’ve only just, tonight thought this could be an actual possibility. I’m over-reacting, right?”

Her post garnered over a hundred responses from baffled users.

One person wrote: “This is my absolute worst nightmare.”

Another commented: “Yes it is possible which is why I have a copper coil as well as DH having had a vasectomy. You need to do a test.”

And a third wrote: “It’s possible I know of someone who had two children post vasectomy.”

A fourth shared: “For the 6th time this week… Mumsnet cannot tell if someone is pregnant! Go to Asda or Tesco and get a First Response fgs. We’re not psychic.”

Of why she hadn’t yet taken a test, she explained: “But 15 years later?? I’m sorry I’ve had a few to drink (hence why I can’t do a test right now) but I’ll be honest, I’m s******g it.

“Doesn’t help that Darling Husband is being so blasé about it.”

According to the NHS, a vasectomy is more than 99 per cent effective.
