Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Manchester United: Superb hosts reach first FA Cup semi-final in 21 years

Diogo Jota scored a superb solo goal as Wolves deservedly beat Manchester United

Wolves put in a superb performance to beat a lacklustre Manchester United and reach their first FA Cup semi-final in 21 years at a raucous Molineux.

Mexico striker Raul Jimenez put the dominant hosts in front on 70 minutes, swivelling to turn home a loose ball after fine approach play by Joao Moutinho.

Diogo Jota scored a sublime second, shrugging off Luke Shaw before surging clear to beat Sergio Romero at his near post.

The hosts dominated in the second half, with Romero required to make two fine saves to deny Jimenez and Moutinho.

United centre-back Victor Lindelof was initially shown a straight red card for a lunging tackle on Jota on 84 minutes, but the video assistant referee overruled Martin Atkinson’s decision, awarding a yellow card instead.

Marcus Rashford scored a late consolation goal, turning to beat John Ruddy with a low strike but the visitors had no time left to deny Wolves a convincing victory.

More to follow.
