Minnesota Vikings owners WISE Ventures has revealed that its Call of Duty League (CDL) team will be called Minnesota Røkkr. The team’s branding includes a Viking helmet logo and a black, purple, and blue color scheme.
The name “Røkkr” is Old Norse for “twilight,” the team explained, which is commonly associated with Ragnarøkkr (Ragnarok), the end of the world or “Twilight of the Gods” in Norse mythology.
Minnesota Røkkr also announced that it will host the inaugural Call of Duty League Launch Weekend from Jan. 24-26, 2020 at the Minneapolis Armory. All 12 professional Call of Duty League teams will compete across three days during the opening weekend of the regular season.
Thus far, all CDL teams have been announced except for NRG Esports in Chicago, c0ntact Gaming in Paris, and Luminosity Gaming parent company Enthusiast Gaming Holdings in Seattle.
Call of Duty League Launch Weekend will also feature the season’s first Call of Duty Challengers Open, during which amateur players from around the world will compete as teams in an open bracket tournament format.
