In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe has finally opened up about his Green Goblin return in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Dafoe revealed that when producer Amy Pascal, and director Jon Watts first approached him about reprising the fan-favorite villain, he let them know that he would only return if it’s going to be more than just a quick cameo. If you’ve already seen the blockbuster hit, you’d know that Dafoe’s Green Goblin does play an important part in the growth of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

In addition to this, his second condition for signing on to the project was also being able to do his own stunts for the action scenes.
“It’s fun to do the action sequences, it’s fun to have resources,” Dafoe shared. “I make a lot of budget-challenged movies. So it’s nice to have all the technical stuff to work with. It’s really fun to do those things because they’re pure. They’re pure because what you’re doing is what you’re doing, and your heart and mind follow.”
Dafoe also went to reveal what it was like working with Holland by praising the 25-year-old actor’s work ethic and commitment to Spider-Man. “I admire greatly his discipline and his commitment to the role. And physically, he was incredible,” commented Dafoe.
Spider-Man: No Way Home sees the return of Tom Holland as the beloved titular wall-crawler, along with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. It was directed by Jon Watts from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers.

The film currently holds a worldwide gross of over $1.6 billion and has become Sony’s highest-grossing film of all time. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are already actively beginning to develop their next Spider-Man film together.
