Why Manchester United could beat Barcelona and Bayern Munich to Kai Havertz transfer

Havertz is under contract until 2022 and Leverkusen bosses are keen to keep hold of their prized asset.

Team manager Simon Rolfes has recently claimed it is “unthinkable” that the German will leave next month.

Executive director Fernando Carro also insisted he will drive a hard deal if any clubs come sniffing.

“Atletico Madrid paid €126million to sign Joao Felix, and I certainly don’t think he’s better than Kai Havertz,” Carro told Rheinische Post.

“We can’t offer him the same as other clubs can. Given the duration of his contract, we have to expect him to leave either this summer or the summer after that.”
