Yesterday we were blessed with the final trailer from upcoming Marvel film Eternals, which has painted a much more vivid picture of the superheroes’ place in the world and their quest.

Continuing its latest phase, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were presented with The Emergence, a rather heinous, planet-destroying event which was kickstarted after Thanos’ snap was reversed in Avengers: Endgame and those who were dusted returned.

According to the very helpful voiceover work of the likes of Gemma Chan and Salma Hayek, we come to understand the ‘Emergence’ involves a dangerous species known as Deviants, who wreak havoc.

As the cast – which also includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden and Kumail Nanjiani – contemplate the potential end of humanity and the Eternals spring into action, one massive fan theory has been explained.

And that is, if the Eternals are here to save humanity amid the Emergence, why on Earth did they not step in when Thanos pulverised 50% of all living beings in Avengers: Infinity War?

Why didn’t the Eternals stop Thanos’ Snap?

Jon Snow might have known nothing in Game Of Thrones, but Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman has got all the right questions, as he quizzes Gemma’s Sersi on why they let Josh Brolin’s Thanos snap away the population.

She answers: ‘We were instructed not to interfere in any human conflicts unless Deviants were involved.’

Fair enough then.

Asked who instructed them such a thing, Sersi remains silent but the next shot is of a giant, imposing, robotic-like creature many fans have speculated is either Eson The Searcher or Arishem the Judge. Either way, it is more likely than not a Celestial who created the Eternals as well as the Deviants.

Sersi also shed more light on their place, saying: ‘We came here 7,000 years ago to protect humans from the Deviants.’

Elsewhere in the Eternals trailer we’re introduced to Angelina’s badass Thena who can make weapons materialise out of thin air, and Kumail’s Kingo who has a few nifty tricks up his sleeve himself, including some fancy magical hand guns.

So this Emergence will be a piece of cake, right?

When is Eternals released?

Eternals is scheduled to hit cinemas November 5 and is helmed by Oscar-winning Nomadland director Chloe Zhao.

The final trailer is of course the most epic of the teasers released so far, giving a good look at the impressive set pieces, costumes and camaraderie between these new characters that are making their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Richard already seems like he will be a watchable leading man, no easy feat in a blockbuster of this scale, with Gemma bringing her empathetic touch from Humans to keep things grounded.

How they fit in to the rest of the MCU will be interesting to see, especially as these all-powerful beings have been ordered to take a ‘hands off’ approach.

Eternals is out November 5.
