IN 2018 the 63rd Song Contest in Lisbon was a night full of talent, excitement, and rivalry.

Let’s take a look at who won the Eurovision last year and where the competition will be this year.

Who won Eurovision last year?

Eurovision fans were kept on the edge of their seats on May 12, 2018.

At the end of all the voting, Israel’s Netta Barzilai took home the win with 529 points.

Cyprus came second with 436 points and Austria followed at 342 points.

It had taken place in Lisbon after Portugal won the Eurovision for the first time in 2017 with Salvador Sobral’s Amar Pelos Dois song.

Who is Netta Barzilai?

Netta is an Israeli singer born in Hod HaSharon on January 22, 1993.

The 26-year-old has studied electronic music at the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music.

By winning the fifth season of the reality singing show HaKokhav HaBa, she earned the right to represent her country in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.

She sang Toy, a song with mostly English lyrics apart from a Hebrew phrase and a Japanese word.

Where will Eurovision be held in 2019?

Now that Israel has taken home the 2018 win, they will be hosting the 2019 ceremony.

Contestants from countries all around the world will be invited to compete in the Expo Tel Aviv convention centre.

Semi-finals will be held on May 14 and May 16, before the finals take place on May 18, 2019.

42 countries are expected to show up, excluding Bulgaria which has announced it will not be participating due to financial reasons.
