The 13-person team of scientists will begin interviewing people from research institutes, hospitals and the seafood market linked to the initial outbreak in the Chinese city.
The team boarded a bus and departed the hotel where they had been in quarantine for the past two weeks shortly after 3 pm local time.
“The eyes of the world are on this,” Marion Koopmans, a Dutch virologist and team member, said. “We have to manage expectations.”
The investigation comes after months of American accusations that the virus originated in a Chinese military lab.
