Who are Blackpink, when was their London tour 2019 and what was the setlist?


BLACKPINK have the most viewed music video ever in 24 hours on YouTube and they are fast becoming the biggest girl band in the world.

But who are they and when did they bring their popular brand of girl to London? Here’s all you need to know.

Who are Blackpink?

Blackpink are a K-pop band from South Korea.

The girl group was formed by YG Entertainment and is comprised of Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé.

They first hit the K-Pop scene with their debut single Square One in August 2016.

But their popularity really took off after the release of their songs Whistle and then Boombayah, which became their first number one hit on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart.

The video set the record for the most viewed debut music video by a Korean artist.

They went on to be declared the New Artist of the Year at the 31st Golden Disc Awards and the 26th Seoul Music Awards.

They’re also the highest-charting female K-pop act on Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200.

As well as being the only K-pop girlband to make it on to Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart on top of being the first to have four number ones on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart.

Blackpink’s track Ddu-Du Ddu-du became YouTube’s most viewed music video in 24 hours.

However the single only reached No78 in the UK charts in June 2018 with their follow-up Kiss And Make Up rising to No36.

The song was the first track featuring the group to reach the top 40 on the UK Singles Chart.

While their latest release, Kill This Love, made them the first all-female group to claim the number one spot on the US iTunes charts in fifteen years.

Did BLACKPINK perform at Coachella?

Yes – BLACKPINK are performing at Coachella on 12 and 19 April and it will make them the first female K-pop group to do so.

The set was well-received on both weekends and they hung out with the likes of Ariana Grande backstage.

The girl group then kicked off their North American tour in LA on April 17.

When did BLACKPINK bring their world tour to London?

BLACKPINK are currently in the middle of their In Your Area world tour, sponsored by KIA.

The band played their first ever UK gig at the Wembley SSE Arena on 22 May 2019 – as part of their mega tour.

Fans packed out the 12,500 capacity venue and had their heart-shaped hammer lightsticks at the ready once the girls hit the stage.

Not only did the band power through their biggest hits whilst delivering super slick choreography, fans were also wowed by stunning background visuals and standout effects.

The group also got their time to shine individually, with Rosé giving a beautiful rendition of Let It Be by The Beatles.

Lisa proved why she is the lead dancer with a sexy routine to Jason Derulo’s  hit track, Swalla.

Then Jisoo got on stage to sing her version of Zedd’s megahit, Clarity.

And Jennie stormed the stage with a performance of her smash single, Solo.

They then ended the show with a slew of their catchiest hits, promising they would be back in London with new material real soon.

Next the girls will take their tour to Asia and Australia with their final performance taking place in Japan on February 4, 2020.
