What Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinks about Marcos Rojo amid loan spell

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t see Marcos Rojo in his plans, reports say. The Argentina international left Old Trafford for Estudiantes during the January transfer window. And it appears that, with the Red Devils well-stocked in defence, the centre-back won’t be given another chance to prove himself.

Manchester United signed Rojo in 2014 back when Louis van Gaal was manager, with the Dutchman confident the centre-back would be the ideal replacement for Rio Ferdinand.

However, prior to his January loan, the Argentina international struggled for consistency throughout his time at Old Trafford.

Rojo won the FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League during his spell at United – actually starting in in two of those three final triumphs.

Solskjaer cut him loose in January, though, believing that he had enough defenders at his disposal in order to see out the campaign.

Rojo has struggled for fitness ever since returning to Argentina.

And the Manchester Evening News say Solskjaer doesn’t see the veteran as part of his immediate plans for the future – which is why he loaned him out.

It’s claimed his long-term future at Old Trafford is unclear due to his high wages.

But Solskjaer feels he has enough defenders on the books to cope without having the player, who also helped Argentina reach the 2014 World Cup final, in his ranks.

United have seen Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire strike up a fine partnership at the back, with the duo sparkling since the turn of the year.

He said: “When I had the OK of the club, the first one I called was my mother and said: ‘Don’t say anything’. Zero, she told me. She told everyone, ha.

“It was hard for the club to make my return difficult. We had been talking a lot.

“It was when the coach said that I was going to stay there.

“When he said that, it was already advanced. I didn’t understand why Solskjaer said it.”
