What Jurgen Klopp has told Harry Wilson with Liverpool in transfer talks over Anfield exit

Liverpool have opened talks with Newcastle United and Aston Villa over the 22-year-old winger, say Sky Sports News.

Wilson starred on loan at Derby County last season, returning 18 goals and six assists in all competitions under Frank Lampard as the Rams reached the Championship play-off final.

The Wales international has played just once for Liverpool’s first-team but has featured heavily in pre-season under Jurgen Klopp.

And according to the Mirror, the German coach has told Wilson he will get an opportunity if he stays with the Merseyside outfit after one-to-one discussions.

The winger, who can also play as a No 10, is a self-confessed Liverpool fan and has spoken of his desire to make the grade at Anfield.

But he has plenty of competition for places in Klopp’s favoured 4-3-3 formation with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi among those ahead of him in the pecking order.

But the Mirror claim that Klopp is keen to fight off the interest in the Liverpool academy graduate.

It is reported that Newcastle and Villa have not made an official approach but have been in contact about the player’s future.

Liverpool’s stance is that they will not loan Wilson out again, with the Welshman having been at Hull City and Derby in the last two years.

Klopp is said to have told Wilson that he plans to ease the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mane and Salah back into the side at the early part of the season following their international involvements over the summer.

And that will allow the former under-23s captain plenty of chances to prove he warrants consistent minutes in Liverpool’s senior squad.

The report adds, however, that Klopp knows Wilson wants to take the next step and that a move to a Premier League club could prove attractive, particularly if he is promised an important role.

If Wilson feels leaving Liverpool permanently is the right move, it is claimed Klopp will reluctantly consider offers.

But Liverpool will demand as much as £25million for the forward, who will seemingly have the final say over his future.

The player – who has been at Liverpool since under-9s level – signed a new five-year contract at the club only last summer.

Derby also contacted the Premier League side about another deal between the two clubs, but would only sign Wilson on a temporary basis, seemingly ruling out any possible Pride Park return.
