The fates of all the couples featured in Netflix’s Indian Matchmaking has been revealed.

Spoiler: It’s not great news.

The new series followed ‘Aunt’ Sima Taparia, who runs a dating service for Indian and Indian-Americans, where she tries to find a compatible match for her customers with input from their parents.

After its debut, Indian Matchmaking was hit with a fervent backlash, with many deeming it to focus on stereotypes that were ‘sexist, classist, casteist and misogynistic.’

After its final episode, the series even left it open-ended as to whether any of the couples featured in the programme stayed together, but sadly (or not, really) that doesn’t seem to be the case.

According to interviews by The LA Times and OprahMag.com, none of the couples featured on the show are actually still a couple.

These include Aparna Shewakramani, who dated three different men over the course of the show – Dilip, Jay and Shekar – but is still single.

She told OprahMag: ‘We’re actually good friends. That’s a positive experience that came out of the show. To walk away with three people you can relate to, and who are good and kind and grounded, is a success in my book.’

Pradhyuman Maloo, Nadia Jagessar, Ankita Bansal, Vyasar Ganesan and Akshay Jakhete are also all still single and on the look for love.

After its debut, Doctor Who star Mandip Gill also jumped on the backlash, admitting that she found herself ‘stressed out’ while watching the show.

‘IndianMatchmaking stressed me out within the first 60 seconds. No lie,’ she wrote on Twitter alongside a Gif of a child rolling her eyes in a car seat.

Shortly after, the 32-year-old replied to her first post, adding: ‘She said you’ll come to see her fair skin. I’m done!!! Get outta here with your flipping s**t show!!!!!!’

Indian Matchmaking is available to stream now via Netflix.
