Tottenham XI: Gazzaniga, Davies, Aurier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Dier, Winks, Alli, Moura, Son, Kane

  • Jose Mourinho named both Eric Dier and Lucas Moura in his first Tottenham side

WEST HAM 0-0 TOTTENHAM

30: Half-hour gone and if you’ve missed any of this… well done. I wouldn’t bother catching up.

27: I suspect Jose Mourinho is starting to understand Mauricio Pochettino’s dilemma with Christian Eriksen. The match is crying out for the Denmark international to unpick this West Ham defence – but he’s eagerness to leave means he’s chained to the bench.

Mark Noble plays a delightful sweeping pass out to Felipe Anderson but having darted forward, the Brazilian plays it miles behind Haller. Waste.

24: Zero shots on target. Nil. None.

21: Nice approach play from Tottenham results in Son leathering one towards goal. Roberto parries it out to Serge Aurier, who recycles well enough. Son fires again and a deflection takes it to an unmarked Lucas Moura to tamely nod wide.

18: Not been a great match so far, folks. Both teams look desperately short on confidence. You get the feeling first goal wins today.

15: Roberto isn’t inspiring much confidence. He’s all over the place when dealing with high balls was actually a touch fortunate to get the foul during the collision with Davinson Sanchez. Conceded 16 goals in seven games this season for West Ham…

13: Well that’s a strange decision… Michael Oliver has just booked Issa Diop after the West Ham defender was halted down by Harry Kane. Bizarre. Anyway, luckily for the official Davinson Sanchez fouls Roberto in the box and the hosts clear.

10: It’s taken 10 minutes but West Ham have their first chance of the day! Ryan Fredericks whips the ball in from the right and there’s Sebastien Haller to head straight at Paulo Gazzaniga. Looks like Serge Aurier did just enough to take some pace off the effort.

8: Another update, another nearly moment for Tottenham. It’s Dele All AGAIN who’s not picked up in that pocket. The England midfielder holds it for a little too long before finding Harry Kane in an offside position. Needs to be a touch quicker from the visitors.

5: Well it has to be said – West Ham have started terribly. They aren’t pressing at all, they look uncomfortable in possession and there’s no obvious plan to hurt the visitors today. Still early days obviously but it’s been very underwhelming.

3: Disallowed! Tottenham think they are off to the perfect start under Jose Mourinho’s leadership. Dele Alli’s drifts into space before prodding the ball through to Harry Kane, who leathers it into the roof of the net. He’s about a yard offside and there’s no need for VAR to check that one.

WEST HAM 0-0 TOTTENHAM

1: Right then… we’re underway at the London Stadium! Very excited to see how this plays out today. And I’ve just remembered that Jose Mourinho hasn’t experience VAR in the Premier League – that could be interesting!

Here they come!

12:25: Jose Mourinho is in the tunnel shaking hands with his players and dishing out hugs left, right and centre. Joe Cole thinks it’s to intimidate the West Ham players. I think he likes a good hug. #Differenceofopinion.

Ten minutes to go…

12:20: All the pundits in the BT Sport studio are very excited indeed. Why? Well, they think Jose Mourinho is a changed man because of his new warm up routine…

Gone are the cones and they’ve been replaced by some tape or string… Not quite sure why that’s exciting. Always liked the humble orange cone myself.

Jose looking relaxed, signing programmes and taking selfies with the West Ham fans.

Twitter reaction

Jeje: Will the ‘humble special one’ be able to cure everyone and everything related to Spurs of their ‘bottling idiosyncrasy’?

William: Jose Mourinho at the London Stadium signing autographs like ‘the awaited one’. Could this be the Messiah Tottenham fans have been crying for?

Frank: I’m supporting Jose Mourinho and Spurs today, don’t know why! I’m a Barca fan!

Will the real Dele please stand up

12:10: Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is determined to bring back the “real Dele Alli” and help the England international rediscover his best form.

Injuries and poor performances have seen midfielder Alli fall out of the reckoning with the Three Lions, but Spurs’ new head coach has plans to reinvigorate the 23-year-old.

“I have already spoken with him and I asked him if he was Dele or Dele’s brother,” Mourinho explained. “He told me he was Dele. ‘OK,’ I said. ‘Play like Dele’.”

Should do the trick…

No problems with Jose

12:05: West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini speaking to BT Sport: “I don’t have any problems with Jose – he is a special man – he named it himself. He is a good manager, he does well in the Premier League. I feel sad for Mauricio Pochettino he has done so much for the club. I wish Jose a lot of success but after this game.”

I think this is in reference to the time Jose Mourinho mocked Manuel Pellegrini for his failure at Real Madrid, saying: “Second place is just the first loser.”

Pellegrini responded saying: “I don’t like coaches who are only interested in results. The concepts of spectacle and creativity are fundamental to me.”

So…

12:00: Arthur Masuaku was handed a new five-year contract in the summer and hasn’t been in the squad for five of the last six games…

Don’t understand that myself. Is that to add value before selling him?

Twitter reaction

Sean: Wouldn’t you be in a good mood if you’d just signed a £15 million a year contract?

Theo: Unsurprised to see Eric Dier right back in the side. He is the definition of a Jose Mourinho player and if he can stay they will get a lot out of each other.

Dave: Still not happy with the manager but I’ll support Spurs through everything.

Finding happiness

11:50: Jose Mourinho sounds like he’s starring in the sequel to the pursuit of happiness during his pre-match interview. Here’s what he’s had to say.

“I think today is about a bit of everything,” Mourinho told BT Sport. “Motivation – I think they always had it.

“People think when results are bad it’s about motivation but they are professionals and they always try their best. Tactics – we have just a few little changes but I have not changed a lot just little things I think will help.”

“Today is important but our future is also very important. We are going to try and find some positions and dynamic which we have had chance to work with Kane, Son and Moura. Today is about finding happiness.”

Happy Jose

11:45: Jose Mourinho appears to have completely transformed. Does he have a twin or something?! Gone are the miserable Manchester United where he looked like a bulldog chewing a wasp.

The Portuguese has arrived with a big smile on his face, handing out high fives to the West Ham mascots who were lined up along the dressing room tunnel. Perhaps he likes the new purple training kit?

Team news – Tottenham

11:40: The moment everyone’s been waiting for… Jose Mourinho’s first starting XI. What a time to be alive…

The Portuguese tactician makes three changes from the side who drew 1-1 at home to Sheffield United.

Lucas Moura comes in to replace Tanguy Ndombele, who failed to recover from a groin injury. There’s also a start for Harry Winks and Toby Alderweireld. Moussa Sissoko and Giovani Lo Celso drops to the bench. Christian Eriksen is also among the substitutes.

Mark Noble (ankle) is passed fit and starts, while Michail Antonio returns to the squad for the first time since August. No Jack Wilshere, but that’s not really a surprise.

Morning…

11:20: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of West Ham vs Tottenham from the London Stadium.

There’s a massive amount of interest in today’s match – can you guess why?

All eyes are on Jose Mourinho during Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off following a whirlwind few days in north London.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss was swiftly appointed by Spurs just hours after the shock departure of Pochettino.

Mourinho believes a title challenge is possible next season and will be eager to make a winning start to appease disgruntled supporters feeling disheartened by the abrupt departure of his popular predecessor and unhappy at his Stamford Bridge connections.

The fixture could also be a defining moment for under-fire Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean – a long-term rival of Mourinho, who he described as ‘not my friend, but not my enemy’ – has mustered only two points from the last 18 available.

WEST HAM vs TOTTENHAM

West Ham will have Mark Noble and Michail Antonio available following injury but Lukasz Fabianski remains absent with a long-term hip injury.

Tottenham will be without Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela (both hamstring) for Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge.

Tanguy Ndombele (groin) is a doubt and will be assessed, while Hugo Lloris (elbow) and Michel Vorm (calf) are sidelined.

Last season: Tottenham 0 West Ham 1, West Ham 0 Tottenham 1

Last five league matches: West Ham L L D L L; Tottenham L D L D D

Top scorers (all competitions): Sebastien Haller (West Ham) 4; Harry Kane (Tottenham) 10
