METAL frames for minimalists and multi-coloured firs are just some of the weirdest Christmas trees retailers are flogging this year.

What’s more, it pays to step away from tradition because some of them cost over £100 a go.

Argos, Wilko, Homebase and John Lewis are among the retailers selling the wacky artificial alternatives this year, which cost shoppers up to £164.

Interior design experts recently slammed tinsel as tacky and branded people with coloured trees “trying too hard to keep up with fashion”.

Well, they’re not going to like these festive numbers, which feature a rainbow fir and an a pop-up tree made from tinsel.

If 2020 is the year you step away from Christmas traditions, then you may be interested in these barmy looking trees.

Argos is selling a soulless Christmas tree this year that doesn’t even have pine needles on it to fill it out.

According to the retailers, the cone-shaped wire-frame is “perfect for smaller rooms” and doesn’t “trap dust like thicker fake firs.

Shoppers can currently save a tenner on the festive centre piece as it’s in the sale for £30, down from £40.

Argos says its 5ft multi-coloured artificial Christmas tree is for people who are “tired of tradition”.

In fact, it’s so bright, the retailer reckons there’s no need to decorate it with baubles and fairy lights – and we have to say we agree.

The 7.5ft horror has a plain, branchless “trunk’ bound in silver tinsel and a few twigs of needles sprouting from the top.

It has been reduced to £163.99 from a whopping £260.70 in the sale.

This 6ft half “parasol” tree from Argos is missing it’s bottom – but you’ll still have to pay full price for it at £45.

It’s not the only retailer to stock these half trees, which Argos reckons are ideal for keeping your baubles out of reach from “cats and curious kids”.

But for convenience, you’ll forfeit style. The tree stands 6ft tall and comes in garish gold or silver tinsel.

The arch consists of two artificial trees that have been morphed into one.

The bizarre foliage is designed to fit around a doorway rather than in your living room, and is currently in the sale, down from £165.

The tree is pre-lit and will need to be screwed into a surface to keep it in place at a 45 degrees angle.

It’s an online exclusive and will set you back a huge £120.

John Lewis’ Christmas tree is far from festive

John Lewis is stocking the perfect Christmas tree for people who don’t want a Christmas tree this year.

The 6ft centre-piece lacks pine needles and a fir tree shape, and needs to be plugged into the mains before the fairy lights will twinkle.

Frances Celements, home buyers at Homebase, said its range this year allows “everyone to express themselves”.

Meanwhile, senior seasonal buyer at Wilko, Katy Higgins, said that its non-traditional trees “add an element of wow factor”.

The Sun has contacted Argos, John Lewis, Next and Wayfair for comment.

A big festive trend this year is flipping your tree so it hangs from the ceiling, which is perfect for those who don’t have much space.
