Wayne Rooney sent off for X-rated tackle

Wayne Rooney was sent off for an X-rated studs-up tackle as his DC United side were thrashed 4-0 by Los Angeles FC.

The former Manchester United star and England captain was given his first MLS red card after a VAR verdict on his shocking tackle on Diego Rossi.

Rooney will miss three games after being given an early bath for his lunge on Rossi, which saw his studs catch the back of the LA striker’s leg.

He was initially given a yellow card, but the VAR replays showed just how terrible a challenge it was.

It’s a badly timed ban for Rooney, as the 33-year-old has been in red hot form for DC United, with four goals and an assist in five games for the Washington side after a hat-trick against Salt Lake City before the international break.
