Vikings season 6 theories: Ragnar return 'confirmed' in key season 4 scene

With the last episode of Vikings stunning fans, there could be a painful wait ahead for the new episodes. As the hiatus continues, viewers have been speculating potential theories, including the surprise return of a long-dead character.

After the deadly attack on Kattegat by Ivar the Boneless (played by Alex Høgh Andersen) and his Rus forces, Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) is left bleeding to death by the tranquil shore.

Some viewers have speculated that Bjorn is not quite dead, with Ivar set to face major repercussions when the series finally makes its return.

As the coronavirus outbreak worsens over the globe, many television productions have been put on hold, and the future of Viking’s sixth and final season has been clouded.

Previously set to air in November, the conclusion to the epic series could be keeping fans waiting for many more months.

In the extended break, fans have been throwing around some insane theories, including the possible return of previous series protagonist, Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel).

The first four seasons of Michael Hirst’s blend of myth and history traced Ragnar’s rise from Viking warrior to respected ruler.

One fan went online to propose that an earlier episode has already confirmed Ragnar will eventually make a comeback to the series.

In the sixth episode of season four, What Might Have Been, Ragnar is told by a Seer (John Kavanagh) that he will meet his end when he is seen by a blind man.

Before his death, a blind cart driver tells Ragnar he sees him, but the mysterious scene has caused a lot of debates amongst the community of Vikings’ fans.

Some speculated that King Ecbert (Linus Roache) could, in fact, be the blind man as, although he had his sight, the King of Wessex was blind to Ragnar’s potential.

Redditor iipeeweeii sought answers from fans and posted: “A lot of people are talking about the return of Ragnar in season six.

“I agree with that. When Ragnar goes to see the Seer in episode six to ask him when he will die the Seer said ‘you will die on the day that the blind man sees you’. I don’t know who the blind man is but they didn’t talk about him until now.”

Finally, they added: “A lot of Vikings fans said he is the Seer himself, but he was killed by Ivar in season five.”

Although Ragnar does indeed meet the prophetic blind man before King Aelle (Ivan Blakeley Kaye) feeds him to a pit of snakes, his appearance has still caused debate amongst fans.

Vikings frequently deals with the ambiguous divide between the warriors’ mortal realm and the spirit world of Norse mythology.

While Ragnar hasn’t reappeared since his death in season four, fans could be treated to a surprise cameo as his son, Bjorn, transcends his physical body and floats up to Asgard.

Travis finished his Vikings duties in 2017 and since appeared in starring roles for blockbuster fantasy Warcraft, and critically acclaimed indie drama Lean on Pete.

In 2020, he is expected to take on the lead role for producer Ridley Scott’s new science fiction television series, Raised by Wolves, for HBO Max.

Moreover, although his fate seems sealed, star Alexander Ludwig has teased his character could make a return in some form for the final episodes of Vikings.

Vikings season 6 airs on History on Wednesdays and on Thursday on Amazon Prime.
