Arsenal boss Unai Emery admits he’s unsure if the club’s transfer business this summer has improved his squad.

The Gunners were surprisingly active in the transfer market and signed a total of six players, including Nicolas Pepe for a club record £72million.

However, Arsenal sold Laurent Koscielny and Alex Iwobi, as well as losing the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Aaron Welbeck at the end of last season.

And, in a surprising admission, Emery admits he’s ‘not more confident’ with the players he has now compared to last season.

Asked if his squad was better this season, Emery replied: ‘I don’t know.

‘Our idea is to improve on last year, to improve our work, improve our players, improve our challenge, to improve in achieving our target but I don’t know if we are better or not.

‘I’m not more confident but I have more options.’

Arsenal continue their Premier League campaign against Burnley at the Emirates on Saturday.

Emery could hand Luiz his first start since the Brazilian’s surprise £8m move from Chelsea.
