U2’s Adam Clayton and Lennon Gallagher walk in the Hermès SS19 fashion show

U2’s Adam Clayton, superstar chef Jackson Boxer and Oasis offspring Lennon Gallagher were among the cast of men chosen by storied fashion house Hermès to model its spring/summer collection.

Taking to the catwalk at the house’s direct-to-consumer showcase, a blockbuster occasion held in London for the first time last night, the dynamic line up modelled zesty lemon trousers, embossed leather bombers and an oversized take on Hermès iconic Birkin bag.

The collection, previously unveiled in Paris as part of designer Véronique Nichanian’s biannual fashion show, reflected the style wants of the modern luxury consumer with formality completely absent from proceedings. Instead tailored swimming shorts and a nod to streetwear was on offer with lightweight anoraks among the high points.

Hermès flew in customers from across the globe to attend the show which was watched by Benedict Cumberbatch and Jade Jagger.

With two hundred years of experience and a no nonsense approach to its artisan leather goods, there’s no question that Hermes is a serious player in the luxury market.

Last night was confirmation that it knows how to enjoy itself too. A party held in a Hermès theme park proceeded the show. Erected for the occasion in an aircraft hangar behind the new American embassy building, this immersive world featured Michelin-worthy street food and an old fashioned bar alongside vintage cars and a chance to get up close and personal with the house’s artisanal techniques. Guests were also treated to a surprise performance from Primal Scream.
