Tetris 99 for everyone!

You can get an unexpected extra if you sign up for Twitch Prime at the moment, with a year’s worth of Nintendo’s equivalent to Xbox Live.

Normally it’s free games or exclusive Fortnite skins that are used as a bonus for signing up to Twitch Prime but the offer at the moment is very different: a year-long subscription to Nintendo Switch Online.

That would usually cost you £17.99, and allows you to play Switch games online (only a few exceptions are playable for free), a gradually expanding range of NES games, make use of cloud saves, and gain access to the exclusive, and really rather good, Tetris 99.

If you’re already a Twitch Prime member (something that also comes as part of the Amazon Prime subscription – so this is subscriptions within subscriptions within subscriptions) then just visit this page and sign up for three months – you’ll then be offered a further nine months after 60 days.

After that there’s still a lot of faffing around needed, as you set up a Nintendo account and linking it to a Prime account. But that’s just part and parcel of gaming today.

If you’re already a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber then you can also take advantage of the offer as long as you link your accounts, with the extra months being added to whatever’s left of your current membership.

The offer lasts all the way until 24 September, so you’ve got plenty of time to take advantage of it if you don’t currently have Twitch Prime or a Nintendo Switch.

Partnering with Twitch is unusual for Nintendo, but they’ve been gaining some surprising allies recently, as the next generation looms and companies like Google enter the games industry. Not only is Xbox indie exclusive Cuphead coming to Switch but there are rumours of more and perhaps even Game Pass on Switch in the future.
