Tried and tested: Taylor Taylor’s chic flagship Shoreditch hair salon

Perched on the corner of Commercial Street, Taylor Taylor Shoreditch is the luxury hairdressers’ flagship salon, the brand has two other locations in the city, one in& Notting Hill and another at Liberty’s.

Experience

A visit to the salon is chic from beginning to end. In the grand reception chandeliers hang from the very high ceiling and a giant fresh flower display sits atop a round leather studded cocktail bar in the centre of the room.

I was met by a member of front of house who led me through to the Grand Cutting Room where comfortable leather chairs sit in front of large vintage mirrors mounted on the walls.

It was 10am on a Friday morning but I was offered a cocktail nevertheless, “bloody mary perhaps?” she asked hopefully. I opt for a cappuccino but hold onto the drinks menu for later.

Francesca came over to discuss my colour treatment and we go through the options of balayage or highlights, I end up opting for the latter, confident I was in good hands. 

Once she gets to work on my colour I’m free to flick through magazines and there’s no pressure for too much small talk. After a few extra minutes under a lamp to accelerate the colour, I’m led down the winding staircase and into the zen subterranean washrooms which are decorated with floor to ceiling golden tiles and chilled out beats play out.

The assistant shampoos and conditions my hair using the salon’s own brand vegan-friendly, paraben and sulfate free product range, Løre Originals and gives me a delightfully firm head massage.  

Once Francesca has come to check my colour is all looking correct – I’m after a bright but slightly ashy blonde – I head into the blowdry room. By this point it’s just gone noon, so in the name of journalism I order a bellini form the menu, which arrived after a bit of a delay, as it’s getting busier upstairs and there are a few more orders at the bar. 

I ask for my hair to be blow-dried with some body and a bit of a wave which the assistant achieves perfectly without any painful pulling or overloading my fine hair with product. I was ready to head out into Spitalfields for a spot of shopping. 

Overall rating

9/10. The glamorous vibe and attentive staff make the whole experience feel special. On the Friday I visited there was a nice buzz to the salon, which I imagine is only heightened on a weekend – I like a bit of ambience& in a hair salon.
