Gerro fury at Villa slump

Steven Gerrard tore into his Aston Villa flops after Brentford came from behind to win 2-1.

Gerrard was livid as the Bees scored late on after Danny Ings gave Villa a 15th minute lead.

And Gerrard accused them of switching off as Yoane Wissa and then Mads Roerslev both scored against the run of play.

He said: “I’m really disappointed that we’ve conceded the second goal because we’re passive. And it’s a catalogue of errors from our point of view.

“That’s the reason why we haven’t got anything from the game because we haven’t defended two or three situations well enough as a team.

“When I first came into this job, I think we got some real positive strong results early on because there was a lot of aggression and a lot of people willing to put their bodies on the line.

“I did not see any of that in the second goal we conceded. Inevitably, we will go away disappointed, frustrated but we only have ourselves to blame because if you lose them key ingredients in terms of defensive work, teams will score.

“You’re always gonna miss your big players, but we can’t use that as an excuse.

“We played some good stuff at times but I won’t sit here and say ‘oh, there’s a lot of positives to take away’ because there isn’t because we’ve lost the game.”
