Manchester United look set to be one of the most active clubs of the window, with interest in Jadon Sancho, Raul Jimenez and Jack Grealish giving fans plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks.
The Independent understands that Borussia Dortmund are ready and willing to come down to £60m in negotiations for England star Sancho. However, that spending could price them out of a move for Aston Villa captain Grealish, with the club unwilling to budge on their £80m valuation. Arsenal meanwhile have been offered the chance to sign former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona – for just £9m.
Chelsea are set to continue their summer spending spree with Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz set to join Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech at Stamford Bridge. Napoli’s Kaliodou Koulibaly is set to be allowed to leave the Serie A club with Manchester City the frontrunners to get him while champions Liverpool could spend themselves with Watford winger Ismaila Sarr an option being considered. Everton Soares, that is, the Gremio attacker who has 14 caps for Brazil.
A Bola says Everton (the team) and Benfica will fight it out to sign the 24-year-old, who is rated at around £22m. This rumour did emerge last year, too, so it could be reignited interest…or a ship which has already sailed.
Salzburg attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has been earning admirers all over Europe across the last couple of seasons and he could be the next to depart the Austrian club.
The likes of Erling Haaland (Dortmund) and Takumi Minamino (Liverpool) were sold in January, while Hwang Hee-chan (Leipzig) left in July.
Now Szoboszlai will be allowed to leave for less than £30 million, reports Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachtrichten, with Arsenal and Chelsea among those from the Premier League keen to land the 19-year-old Hungarian. Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are also credited with strong interest.
News from the fourth tier, as former Liverpool and Leeds winger Harry Kewell is appointed manager of Oldham Athletic in League Two.
Wolves are on the trail of midfielder Joao Palhinha.
The Portuguese 25-year-old has been on loan at Braga, the same club that striker Paulinho is at – who Wolves have also been heavily linked with this week.
Palhinha’s parent club is Sporting, but they “don’t see a future for him” according to national outlet Record, who say Wolves are keen on a deal for less than €15m.
Quite why he’d be a success there but not at Sporting is not covered in detail, so perhaps merely a watch-this-space rumour for now.

We saw earlier that Barcelona are keen on Eric Garcia and might be tempted to make a big bid for the City centre-back – but Sport have another angle on the same story.
They say City chiefs are keen to meet for talks, but rather than it being over a sale for Garcia, they are actually keen to sign Sergi Roberto and will simply use Garcia as a makeweight in the deal if needed. There is still a contract renewal on offer for the City man, too.
Sergi Roberto can play right-back or central midfield and the 28-year-old has close to 300 appearances for Barcelona to his name.
Barcelona and Juventus love a swap deal. There was one earlier in the year for young players, then another at the start of summer for Miralem Pjanic-Arthur Melo.
Now a third exchange could be on the cards, with Sport saying Juve could take Ivan Rakitic and €30 million, with Barca taking Rodrigo Bentancur.

Crystal Palace forward Wilf Zaha wants out this summer, that much is clear. What’s less apparent is exactly where he’ll end up. Everton have been suggested as a potential destination, but The Athletic’s Greg O’Keeffe reports it’s “unlikely” to be the case.
“While they harbour some interest, we’ve been told at this stage that it’s unlikely that Zaha will be an Everton player next season.
“I think there are a range of impediments from transfer fee, to wages, to potential other interest in Zaha.”
Leicester City and top-flight newcomers West Brom are set to go head-to-head in the battle for Kosovan striker Vedat Muriqi.
That’s according to Turkish outlet Turkiye, who say the Fenerbahce striker will cost at least €15 million – but Fener are hoping for more interest to “generate a bidding war” for the 26-year-old.

Solskjaer meanwhile wants to give Axel Tuanzebe the chance to step in next season, having been impressed with his progress.
Tottenham striker Troy Parrott has joined Championship side Millwall on loan.
The 18-year-old will spend next season in south London after making four first-team appearances for Spurs last term.

Chris Basham has signed a new deal at Sheffield United to stay at the club until the summer of 2022.
Basham is the Blades’ longest-serving player and has played a key role in the club’s rise from League One to the Premier League under manager Chris Wilder.

He’s determined to stay at Madrid though largely because of the lack of possible options, with clubs unable to afford Bale’s hefty transfer fee and wages.

City’s second potential signing could well prove to be Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, after the Austrian’s contract talks with the Bundesliga champions hit a stalemate.
German newspaper Bild report that Alaba’s agent has asked Bayern to pay the defender €20m a year in order to extend his contract, which is set to expire at the end of next season, but the club have not been impressed by his demands and are considering selling him this summer or letting him leave on a free transfer.
That has alerted Manchester City, who are in the market for a new left-sided defender despite Benjamin Mendy’s return to fitness after growing concerned with the Frenchman’s performances.
Kalidou Koulibaly, who is available for upwards of £70m this summer, is also an option as City look to bolster their defence.
David Alaba continues to attract interest from the Premier League with Chelsea joining Manchester City in chasing the Austrian full-back, who is currently stalling on a new contract with Bayern Munich due to a disagreement on wages, while City are also poised to make a double-swoop for Valencia winger Ferran Torres and Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake – having agreed a £41m fee with the recently-relegated club on Thursday.
