Yaya Toure

One of the best midfielders of his generation

When you think of players synonymous with Manchester City’s ascent back to one of English football’s major forces – Toure is right up there.

In eight years at the Etihad following a £24million move from Barcelona in 2010, he scored 59 times in 230 appearances and became one of the most dominant midfield players of his generation.

He helped City to three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups and became a club legend in the process.

Rio Ferdinand

Ferdinand became one of the most decorated players of his generation

Ferdinand came through the ranks at West Ham before twice breaking the British transfer record, signing for Leeds and then for Manchester United.

It was at United where he would go on to become one of the most decorated players of his generation, winning six Premier League titles, two League Cups and the Champions League.

In all, Ferdinand played 493 times in the English top flight, scoring 11 goals and establishing himself as one of the greatest English defenders of all time.

Patrick Vieira

Vieira was Arsenal’s inspirational captain

You cannot have the conversation about the Premier League’s best foreign imports without talking about Patrick Vieira.

After arriving at Arsenal for £3.5million in 1996 along with a certain Arsene Wenger – he would go on to become the Gunners’ inspirational captain, staying in north London for nine years.

He scored 29 times in 279 games for Arsenal, helping them to three Premier League titles – including the 2003-04 Invincibles season – and three FA Cups.

He would return to the Premier League for a brief stint with Manchester City at the end of his career, winning another FA Cup with the Blues in 2010-11.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo won three Premier League titles with United

In terms of sheer talent, probably the best the Premier League has seen.

He arrived at Manchester United for just over £12million in 2003 having impressed against the Red Devils for Sporting Lisbon.

Ronaldo would go on to establish himself as one of the best to ever kick a football over the following years with United, then with Real Madrid.

He spent six years at Old Trfford before switching to the Bernabeu – where he would go on to become Los Blancos’ record goal scorer.

With United, he scored 84 goals in 196 Premier League matches and won three top-flight titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups and the Champions League.
