Tories can’t rely on Brexit or Corbyn next time: Boris Johnson must deliver for blue collar workers from day one

THIS week marks a monumental change for our country and our politics.

After years of struggling along with no majority, or with tight margins forcing the Government’s hand, finally we have the number in Parliament to get on and deliver.

Now we have a Conservative Government that is firmly in control of matters, and that has a point to prove.

On Thursday millions of people voted Conservative in areas that many would never have expected, many for the first time ever.

These are leave-voting communities, largely working class communities, that share our Blue Collar Conservative agenda and priorities.

We have to make good on that agenda now – to boost our police, crack down on crime, focus on public services, and give people the tools to be free and to get on in life.

We have to focus investment in infrastructure and jobs in these communities. We have promised, now we must deliver.

Many people talk of the Conservative Party being a ‘broad church’ and about ‘One Nationism’.

It’s a phrase I’ve always thought was a little bit detached from the real world.

But after this result on Thursday it’s clear that the party is shifting.

We have lots of new colleagues on the Government benches, representing places across the Midlands and the North that have a clear set of working class values.

From Bishop Auckland, Darlington and Redcar,  to Ashfield and Bolsover.

These new MPs will have different priorities and bring a different viewpoint.

Blue Collar Conservatism should be the buzzword of this election and it seems clear to me that the ‘broad church’ of the Conservative Party is now reliant on those blue collar values.

People have lent us their votes based on the promises we have made. We simply must fulfil them

Ben Bradley MP

Our future as a party and as a Government should be focused on delivering for the people in seats like these (and like mine in Mansfield of course)!

We won this election, of course, because of Brexit and Corbyn.

But also because we had a clear and focused message for blue collar communities.

A message that says we understand the challenges in your area, from run down town centres and antisocial behaviour, to a lack of infrastructure, skilled jobs, GP appointments.

It’s investment and it’s public services, focused around these post-industrial towns that often have the least.

People have lent us their votes based on the promises we have made. We simply must fulfil them.

Rest assured Brexit and Corbyn will not be around to help us next time, we will be reliant on our record of delivery for these people who have backed us for the first time in places we haven’t won before.

Delivering for these communities is levelling up the whole country and making life better for everyone, everywhere.

The Prime Minister and his team should be congratulated for their strong message, their clear plan and vision and for making the right promises.

This was an amazing result that will change our country for the better.

Now the hard work begins to deliver, with a Blue Collar Conservative agenda at the very heart of everything we do.
