Marvel’s Avengers

  • Developer: Crystal Dynamics
  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, Google Stadia
  • Release: May 15, 2020

Marvel’s Avengers is an upcoming video game by Crystal Dynamics which will tell a unique story of earth’s mightiest heroes. Overall, the game takes place during the celebration of the Avengers new headquarters unveiling in San Francisco, but a catastrophic incident occurs leaving the city destroyed. This event goes down in history and as a result of Earth outlaws all heroes, though years go by and a new threat emerges. Humanity requires dire help and has resulted in the Avengers putting aside their differences and stepping up to once again save the world.

This upcoming title received its first real unveiling during E3 2019 so at the time of writing this, there is not a ton of information to really go off on. With that said, it looks as if there will be a wide variety of Marvel heroes appearing in the game with the staple characters such as Black Widow, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America already confirmed. With that said, there will be additional heroes added into the game after launch but they will come as free updates. At the moment, the gameplay looks to be rather linear with players swapping between various characters of the game, but we’re of course waiting for even more information to come out for this upcoming title.

Cyberpunk 2077

  • Developer: CD Projekt Red
  • Publisher: CD Projekt
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, Google Stadia
  • Release: April 16, 2020

Cyberpunk 2077 is easily one of the most anticipated video game titles releasing in 2020. Within Cyberpunk 2077 players are set in a futuristic world, though to be more exact, a dystopia Night City. Big corporations and crime thrive making those who inhabit the area to be tough. That’s where players step into the role of a mercenary name V. You’ll have to handle small jobs and work your street cred up to earn high paying jobs. There’s a lot to do in Night City and the development studio has been stating that the in-game map is dense along with being very lively.

We’ve also seen some ambitious gameplay footage so far from the game which showcases just how the developers are allowing players to handle any mission however they see fit. As a result, there is plenty of choices throughout that will alter the narrative and give players specific endings. Speaking of choices and the futuristic setting of Cyberpunk 2077, players will find that there are several customization options. A big role in the game is augmentations where players can tweak their protagonist and supply various improvements that may help towards your play style.

Dying Light 2

  • Developer: Techland
  • Publisher: Techland Publishing
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2020

A sequel to 2015’s Dying Light is coming out in 2020. Dying Light 2 will still retain the action survival horror elements from its predecessor but set in a new area of the world and will be taking place several years after the events of the first game. We’re also dealing with a new protagonist known as Aiden Caldwell who has an infection that gives him strength and agility. Details of the narrative is a bit scarce, but we have been seeing developers play more towards the role of choice and consequences. With Aiden residing in what may be the last stronghold against the zombie threat, your choices and handling of various situations with the city factions will alter the narrative Aiden will go through. There’s plenty of parkour traversing around the city but you don’t have to handle all the action and fun by yourself. Instead, there is a co-op option available with a total of four players being able jump into the game and help throughout the campaign.

Halo Infinite

  • Developer: 343 Industries
  • Publisher: Microsoft
  • Platforms: PC, XBO, Project Scarlett
  • Release: 2020

After the less than stellar release of Halo 5: Guardians, 343 Industries is bringing out a new installment that will tell a more human story for Master Chief. The video game was not really showcased all that much but during E3 2019 we got a new trailer and a small premise. From the trailer, it looks like Master Chief was rescued from space where he learns that humanity has lost the war. This leaves players to once again embark on a journey to turn the tides. While we didn’t receive any gameplay footage or a real detailed synopsis of what the narrative will entail, we do know that the title will be available on the PC, Xbox One and also on the upcoming platform from Microsoft, Project Scarlett. It’s not slated to release until the end of 2020 so we’re bound to get more real information of what to expect and any other new features being added to the franchise during E3 2020. However, for now, you can check out the latest trailer for the video posted above.

No More Heroes 3

  • Developer: Grasshopper Manufacture
  • Publisher: Marvelous
  • Platforms: NS
  • Release: 2020

It’s been ten years since No More Heroes II released but next year we’ll get the release of No More Heroes 3. The video game doesn’t have a ton of information out yet but we do know that this will still be a hack-and-slash title with our leading protagonist Travis dealing with an alien invasion. It’s bound to be over-the-top action much like the previous installments, though like the past installments, this will be a Nintendo exclusive with No More Heroes III set to launch at some point in 2020.

More details are bound to release for the video game before its release so if you’re looking to continue Travis Touchdown’s journey then you’ll want to keep a lookout for new upcoming Nintendo Direct uploads for any additional highlights.

Outriders

  • Developer: People Can Fly
  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2020

During E3 2019, we got the reveal of Outriders, a new video game being developed from the Bulletstorm studio People Can Fly. Because the initial announcement of the video game came from this year’s E3 event, not too much information has been put out to the public, though we do know that this is a shooter set in a sci-fi universe. From what we have learned so far about the narrative it seems that Earth is dying and it’s left the rest of humanity to seek out a new place to live. This is where a group sets off to colonize an alien planet known as Enoch. However the group learns that the planet is far from being a safe and compatible home for colonization.

There are plenty of hostiles residing in the planet and you’ll have to fight your way through the planet in what we assume is a means of escape. We’re definitely keeping tabs on this game for more information but for now, we know that the developers are aiming to see Outriders release for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms this coming 2020.

Skull & Bones

  • Developer: Ubisoft
  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2020

Skull & Bones is Ubisoft’s take on a new pirate theme video game. This won’t be the first time Ubisoft made a pirate-themed ship combat title as this component was one element that fans thoroughly enjoyed in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Within the game, players will set the high seas in search of loot from easy targets. From what we can gather, your pirate crew can befriend other crews to receive aid during desperate battles. However, you must be careful as there is no honor among thieves.

Combat seems to be similar to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag where players must command shots to be made at other ships all while maneuvering through the ocean. Players can even make upgrades to their ships before they set sail at the harbor.

Watch Dogs: Legion

  • Developer: Ubisoft
  • Publisher: Ubisoft
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, Google Stadia
  • Release: March 6, 2020

Watch Dogs is receiving a third main installment to the franchise next year. Ubisoft is taking players to London with Dedsec hoping to end a regime but there is a slight change up from previous installments. With Watch Dogs: Legion players are not going to focus on a single character protagonist but instead a wide variety of potential NPCs. Instead of having a single player that is capable of every skill, the game puts a focus on recruiting NPCs that may have a useful attribute towards a mission. During E3 2019, we got a look at that with a mission regarding players having to seek out a drones expert.

During the gameplay mission, players were able to identify a character that is suitable at hacking drones and began his quest to recruit the character. With that said, during the mission, our protagonist was killed. Instead of a reaching a game over screen, the game put players in control of a member that is already recruited within the roster. From there players continued to pursue the character in hopes of recruiting him towards Dedsec. It looks as if every character is capable of dying for good in-game so expect a rotating cast of characters to play as. Likewise, this is still an action-adventure title with plenty of missions and the ability to choose how to reach the end goal. For instance, you can opt for a more stealth-based approach or go in guns blazing.

Honorable Mention: Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

  • Developer: TaleWorlds Entertainment
  • Publisher: TaleWorlds Entertainment
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release: March 2020 (Early Access)

Mount & Blade is going to receive a new installment in 2020. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, is a prequel to the first installment, taking place a couple of hundred years earlier. Much like the last installment, you can expect everything from siege gameplay, working with an economy, to even crafting weapons. Likewise, there is a modding engine already planned to allow players to create their own unique content for others to enjoy. While we have this game marked for a release in 2020, it’s not the full launch window. Instead, the development studio over at TaleWorlds Entertainment is looking to bring this game out into Early Access within 2020. As it stands right now, we don’t know just when the release outside of Early Access will be but news should come shortly after its Early Access launch.
