Speaking to this week’s Radio Times, he explained: “When I look at Secret Service, what’s weird is that I can see that to some extent the novel is the product of a fevered mind, or at least Kate is developing quite a fevered mind.
“Anyone reading that book can see that she’s basically on the verge of some kind of meltdown.”
The news correspondent likened Kate’s experiences to that of his own.
“As was I, but I didn’t recognise it in myself at that point. Secret Service was what it was like for me just before falling off a cliff,” Tom commented.
