Today’s back pages: ‘burger king’ Ben Stokes eclipses Ian Botham and Andrew Flintoff

Happy meals for Headingley heroes

England cricket star Ben Stokes has revealed that he and some of his team-mates celebrated the third Ashes Test victory over Australia by having a drive-thru at McDonald’s.

It was “happy meals” all round for the heroes of Headingley, the Daily Express reports, while the Daily Mirror says that “burger king” Stokes really is the new Beefy.

It’s not just the Mirror comparing Stokes’s Headingley heroics to Ian “Beefy” Botham, who starred in the 1981 Ashes Test at the Leeds ground.

England’s greatest ever all-rounder

Writing in The Guardian Stokes’s team-mate Moeen Ali says the 28-year-old is arguably now the “greatest all-rounder this country has ever produced”.

Moeen says the memorable 135 not out in Leeds and the man-of-the-match performance in the Cricket World Cup final has helped Stokes eclipse all-round icons Botham and Andrew Flintoff.
