Local councils are often provided with a pot of money to distribute around their local area and families in Nottingham, in particular, can now take full advantage.

Nottingham City Council have announced that £3.5million is to be used to support struggling pensioners, families and the city’s most vulnerable households.

This will be provided in the form of supermarket and energy support vouchers.

Supermarket vouchers worth £50 will be made available for vulnerable households and those on a low income.

Those under the same criteria can also apply for two energy support vouchers worth £49 each.

Online applications for supermarket and energy support vouchers opened on Wednesday (May 22), so these can be applied for immediately.

Nottingham residents are advised to be quick, however, with the vouchers served on a first come, first served basis.

Councillor Cheryl Barnard, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education at Nottingham City Council, said: “I would urge anyone who is struggling financially to find out what support they may be eligible for and apply for it as soon as possible, as these are limited on a first come, first served basis.

“Our website also provides further advice and avenues for support for those who may need it.”

If you miss out on the Digital Supermarket Voucher then fear not, as it won’t be long before you can apply again.

A £15 Supermarket Voucher for May half term holiday has been made available, while a one-off £50 Supermarket Voucher for the summer holiday period, prior to the end of term in July 2024, can also be applied for.

As part of the deal, free half-term activities have been made available through the Holiday Activity Fund.
