This South Korean apartment block looks like a Minecraft house

The video game phenomenon that is Minecraft has influenced much: YouTubers, WHSmith-goers and the realtors of Beverly Hills.

Now, it’s influenced an apartment block.

The apartment block in question is called Cascade House on account of its symmetrical stepped form, and can be found in Seoul, South Korea (thanks, dezeen).

Aoa Architects is behind the work, which has had the apartments clad in glossy red and white pixel-like tiles – a clear nod to the blocky visuals of Minecraft.

“The symmetrical figure of cascade is a kind of criticism of the asymmetrical form generated by building regulation and brings various analogies such as Belgian stepped gable, acorn tree, or the game Minecraft,” Aoa Architects said. “The red tiles and rustic stones are a satirical homage of the common neighborhood typology.”

Aoa Architects even published an image of Minecraft featuring a recreation of Cascade House, for comparison.

Does this real-life Minecraft house look cool? I’m not sure it does, but it certainly stands out among the rank and file apartment blocks in the surrounding area, so there is that.
