This Morning viewers in tears as Ruth Langsford visits brain damaged former colleague: ‘This is so heartbreaking’

This Morning viewers were left in tears after show host Ruth Langsford visited a former colleague who had returned home for the first time in three years after being left brain damaged.

Langsford, who regularly hosts the breakfast show on a Friday with husband Eamonn Holmes, met up with old friend Amy May Shead.

Shead, who was a producer on the ITV show, had been left with brain damage after she suffered a severe nut allergy after eating a piece of chicken on a flight to Budapest.

The 31-year-old suffered an anaphylactic reaction and was starved of oxygen for six minutes. She miraculously pulled through but has been left confined to a wheel chair and was living in a care home.

Emotional: Viewers were left in bits over the visit (This Morning/ITV)

On Friday’s show Langsford visited Shead and her family at their new home, which has been converted to suit her needs.

Kissing Shead tenderly on the forehead, Langsford said: “I could hear you shouting, were you shouting for me? Hello my darling. You look nice, she’s got all her jewellery on for me. So this is your new place Amy I like it.”

Viewers were left feeling very emotional at the heartbreaking segment.

One user wrote: “This is heart breaking I remember when I watched her with Ruth on @thismorning. Ruth was so lovely to her can’t imagine how everyone feels.”

Another added: “How devastating for that whole family.”

“Ruth Langford so kind with Amy. Had a little cry,” posted a third.

The visit comes after Shead appeared on the show two years ago in a touching interview, which saw Langsford comfort her as her family told the tragic story in a bid to have nuts banned on planes.

This Morning is on ITV, weekdays at 10:30am
