Thibaut Courtois has reiterated his desire to see former Chelsea teammate and countryman Eden Hazard leave Stamford Bridge and join him at Real Madrid.

The Belgian shot-stopper, who played alongside Hazard for four seasons in west London after returning from a long-term loan at Atletico, left Chelsea last summer with only one year left on his contract.

Hazard is in a similar position now, with just one year to run on his deal come summer, and Courtois would be delighted to see him in the white of Real Madrid.

‘He is one of my best friends in football,’ Courtois told El Transistor. ‘I do not know if he’s going to sign for Real Madrid, nor do I know if the club wants him.

‘But for me he’s one of the best of the world and as a friend I would like him to be here.’

Courtois’ move has not gone seamlessly, making a number of errors in a below-par season and losing his place between the sticks in Zinedine Zidane’s first game, but he still believes he made the right choice.

He continued: ‘I do not regret coming, Madrid is the club I always wanted to be at.

‘Defending this goal is a luxury. I think, “How cool is it be there every two weeks”. At Real, I noticed from the first minute that I was at the best club in the world.

Courtois also revealed that he still hangs out with two of his old Chelsea teammates – and now Atletico rivals – Filipe Luis and Diego Costa, and is always ‘delighted’ to see them.
