Theo Walcott has been taken to hospital after suffering a nasty head injury during Everton’s Premier League encounter with Manchester City .
The Toffees star was smashed in the side of the head with the ball after a Raheem Sterling cross hit him from close range during the early stages of Saturday night’s showdown.
The incident occurred in just the second minute at Goodison Park and Walcott received immediate attention from the club medical staff.
And, following more than five minutes of treatment, Walcott was taken off on a stretcher and replaced by former Arsenal team-mate Alex Iwobi.

Walcott looked understandably confused following the incident and Everton have since announced that the winger will undergo a “precautionary assessment” at hospital.
It has not yet been confirmed if Walcott has a concussion or not.
City took the lead in the 24th minute when Kevin De Bruyne produced a brilliant curling cross and Jesus headed in past Jordan Pickford.
Everton almost replied immediately, but Ederson kept out Gylfi Sigurdsson’s long-range effort.

The Toffees eventually equalised in the 34th minute when Seamus Coleman chipped over Ederson from a tight angle and Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed in on the goal line.
However City regained their lead in the second-half when Riyad Mahrez curled a wonderful free-kick beyond Pickford, who was unable to get a hand to the ball.
And the title-chasing visitors moved two goals clear when Raheem Sterling smashed home a powerful shot that sneaked over the line with the help of the crossbar.
That was how it ended, with City’s 3-1 victory meaning they close the gap to Premier League leaders Liverpool back to five points.
