The Walking Dead’s Khary Payton joins Zachary Quinto in new Robert Kirkman project

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman announced some very exciting casting news for his upcoming animated series based on the comics, Invincible.

While working on the zombie franchise, he’s also been getting fans fired up for the new Amazon Prime show, and has roped two huge names into the mix.

When appearing on the Skybound virtual panel, the 41-year-old confirmed both The Walking Dead’s Khary Payton and Star Trek’s Zachary Quinto would be joining the new project.

‘I have some really exciting stuff to announce,’ he told the host Hector Navarro. ‘I know everyone is very antsy, I get a lot of tweets when are we going to see a trailer, soon, very, very soon.’

He then went on to say: ‘I’ve got two new casting bits, Zachary Quinto will be playing Robot, and Khary Paynton is Black Samson.’

‘He’s done  a little voice work I hear, I don’t know what he’s done,’ the star teased.

The story focuses on the teenager Mark Grayson, who live a rather ordinary life – apart from the fact his father Omni-Man, is one of the most powerful entities on the planet.

The readers then go on a journey with Mark as he starts to develop and navigate his own extraordinary powers.

Kirkman announced a star-studded cast including Zazie Beetz, Chris Diamantopolous, Walton Goggins, Grey Griffin and Mark Hamill.

It was previously reported that Steven Yuen (who played Glenn in The Walking Dead) has been cast as Mark, with J.K. Simmons and Sandra Oh as his parents.

Meanwhile, Kirkman has found himself indulged in The Walking Dead’s season 10 finale – after it was postponed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Hinting at when the latest instalment will drop, he recently told CartoonistKayfabe: ‘The old Walking Dead show will be coming back. We’ll be airing — I know dates. I don’t think they’re public.

‘But we have the finale of [Season 10]… There will be more Walking Dead television for you to watch at some point in the future.’

It’s thought fans will get to find out more at the San Diego Comic-Con.
