The Walking Dead spoilers: Rick Grimes comes to blows with spin-off character?

The Walking Dead spin-off series is as of yet untitled but AMC has cast three roles, according to Variety.

Actors Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu and Hal Compton will star in the upcoming programme which is set to follow two young female protagonists.

The publication reports that Alexa will play one of the two leads, a “good-natured rule breaker” who is sad on the inside despite projecting a humorous exterior.

With the actress looking to take on one of the lead roles, she could be at odds with Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) if he shows up on the AMC series.

While Rick left the programme in the ninth series, his exact whereabouts remain unknown and he could crop up anywhere.

Although he is set to appear in a trilogy of movies he could still appear in the television programme as he did appear in the first spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead boss Scott Gimple has teased the possibility of cross-overs between the different series’ and films.

“It’s a rare thing,” he told Digital Spy. “It’s not gonna happen like this a lot. But I will say there are different sorts of crossovers we are going to do to tie the shows together, tie the universes together in certain ways that have to do with the greater happenings in the world.

“In telling stories of the past we might see characters interact, or just see those characters we’ve not seen in a while.”

Could this mean Rick will be popping up in the new sister-show?

Viewers will have to wait and see when the new programme hits screens next year.

The spin-off is set to air in 2020 although many details about the premise of the series are being kept under wraps.

AMC boss Josh Sapan has discussed the series, explaining: “With its focus on the next generation of survivors led by two young female protagonists, we think this third series is a perfect gateway to advance the narrative of this universe in ways that are multi-generational, fresh and unexpected.”

“Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad,” AMC has said.

Another of the new castings, Nicolas, is set to play a character small for his age according the Variety.

Meanwhile, Hal’s character is said to be big for his age but is a loner who resents how much he frightens others.

Elsewhere, on the main series, Judith Grimes star Cailey Flemming has hinted that Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) could switch sides.

According to CBR, Cailey was asked if Negan could ever change sides, and if he’ll be a good guy in season ten, to which she responded: “Yes.

“I am hopeful because I believe in him.”

The Walking Dead is expected to return to AMC later this year.
