The Walking Dead season 9 spoilers: Daryl Dixon star spills on show FIRST in huge finale

Just as viewers thought sadistic killer Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) had finished his reign of terror on The Walking Dead, The Whisperers arrived to cause further trouble for the former Alexandrians.

Alpha (Samantha Morton) and Beta (Ryan Hurst) are proving to be formidable opponents on the zombie horror, and Michonne (Danai Gurira) suffered her most devastating storyline twist yet in last week’s episode.

But this week viewers will see a completely unexpected feature according to Daryl actor Norman, in the form of snow – and it will be a show first for The Walking Dead.

The star revealed the weather phenomenon not yet witnessed on the post-apocalyptic series will also feature in the season finale.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Friday, Norman teased: “The next episode, bring some Kleenex.

“It’s gnarly. It’s so heavy, the next episode…”

Trailing off, the Daryl star considered his next words so as to be careful not to accidentally release any spoilers.

“The last episode has a look to it that we’ve never done before,” he declared finally, and fans should be very excited for what’s to come.

Tonight’s episode is the 15th instalment, called The Calm Before, and hints fans will see the last moments of happiness before something terrible happens to their favourite characters.

The Kingdom leader King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) attempts to assemble communities Hilltop, Oceanside, and Alexandria in an unexpected twist on the show.

Realising for the first time in years the survivors might need to group together to fight the growing storm from The Whisperers, Ezekiel is met with some resistance, and all the while fans will begin to notice winter is coming.

What’s more, in the season finale, titled The Storm, the likes of Daryl and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) will be faced with a battle against the elements in a snow blizzard.

Executive producer Scott Gimple teased back in 2016 the seasons would finally be changing on the AMC show, as he said he would be “shocked” if the characters never saw snow.

“In the comics, the seasons have been represented — not all the time,” he said. “But there’s been some really notable moments in the snow and even in autumn really.

“That’s a challenge for us, we’re thinking about it and figuring it out,” the producer went on. “Nothing could be further from winter than our shooting schedule.

“That’s a challenge, and there are certain things we balance.

“Just being able to make the show is a challenge,” he added.

But who will survive the shocking events of tonight’s instalment? And who will disappear from the world of The Walking Dead once and for all?

The Walking Dead continues Sunday on AMC in the US, and follows Monday at 9pm on FOX in the UK.
