'The Umbrella Academy' fans speculate on show's future after Aidan Gallagher's cryptic tweets

The actor’s words suggested the show might not return

Fans of The Umbrella Academy have begun speculating about the show’s future following cryptic tweets from one of its stars.

Aidan Gallagher played Number Five in the Netflix series based on My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way’s comic book series of the same name.

Last week (March 23), the actor tweeted: “Thank you for the role of a lifetime! I will always look back and say wow that was the coolest role I ever played!” The post appears to have been deleted, but the finality of his wording caused fans to pay attention.

Since publications began to report on the tweet, Gallagher has doubled down on his position. “I stand by my tweet,” he wrote yesterday (March 26), quoting his original message. “How is that not clear enough for everyone?”

The star also responded to a fan earlier in the week who tweeted the news that The Umbrella Academy had been renewed for a second season. “A misquote out of context taken from a magazine in LA and distorted for spin by a website in the UK does NOT equate to a Season 2 confirmation,” he tweeted. “Sorry. It’s been real.”

Earlier this week (March 25), it was reported that the cast of the show were still unsure whether it would be renewed or not. Actors Tom Hopper and Emmy Raver-Lampman were asked at Birmingham’s MCM Comic Con whether or not fans could expect to see new episodes in the future.

“I wish! Call up Netflix,” Raver-Lampman reportedly replied.

Their co-star David Castañeda had previously suggested things could take a dark turn if the series did return.
