The Handmaid’s Tale star Bradley Whitford is well know for his outstanding performance of the mysteriously hard to read Commander Lawrence. In Sunday’s Emmy Awards the star walked away with multiple awards for his work as he became the first person to win an Emmy in both the comedy and drama guest categories.
The Commander Lawrence star prevailed over five other nominees for the title of Outstanding Drama Guest Actor in the Handmaid’s Tale and this wasn’t the first time the star had picked up such an award.
The star previously won the Comedic version of the award for his role in Transparent in 2015, making him the first person to have won both.
Speaking at the awards, the star explained the success of the show was due to the relevance of the issues June (played by Elisabeth Moss) faces to the time in which it was set.
Bradley explained: “I get to look into Lizzie Moss’ eyes,” he said.

However, he was the first to ever win both, meaning Bradley and The Handmaid’s Tale has made history at the 2019 Emmy awards.
Other wins from the cast include Cherry Jones, who played June’s mother in the Hulu drama.
The actress walked away with an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Guest actress collecting another win for the drama.
The show also won an Emmy for Outstanding production design for the eleventh episode of season two entitled Holly.
The show was also nominated for outstanding costumes for the fantasy/sci-fi category, outstanding picture editing and Outstanding Music composition for a series.
However, Game of Thrones beat the to the spot, as the final episode of the show won both awards.
Nonetheless, it has been a successful night for The Handmaid’s Tale.
The Handmaid’s Tale season three is now available to stream on Hulu.
