Today has been one for the political and fashion history books.
Not only was Joe Biden sworn in as President of the United States, and not only did Michelle Obama deliver the monochrome serve of the century, but meme king Bernie Sanders also swept in with the new must-have winter fashion accessory – boldly patterned and fluffy-looking mittens.
Somehow understated yet also bold, the brown, black and white mittens have taken both the fashion conscious and politically minded by storm.
Senator Sanders’ simple yet effective inauguration look also featured a minimalist brown hooded parka, black trousers, brown shoes, a disposable face mask and plenty of social distancing.
According to a tweet by BuzzFeed politics reporter Ruby Cramer, the eco-friendly mittens were made by a teacher from Vermont out of old wool jumpers and have been lined with fleece made out of recycled plastic bottles.
Sadly, that means we may find it difficult to get the exact ones worn by Senator Sanders for ourselves.
