It’s official: the ‘rona cannot stop the red carpet.
While the 74th British Academy Film Awards, aka the BAFTAs, may look a little different this year, the biggest names in film and TV didn’t let the pandemic stop them from making bold, show-stopping fashion statements.
One of the final events in the awards season calendar, this year’s BAFTAs ceremony is being held over two nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall, with the usual jam-packed, star-studded red carpet replaced by an almost entirely virtual affair with no live audience.
Though the ceremony may be more stripped back than usual, celebrities from Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Bridgerton‘s Phoebe Dynevor and Cynthia Erivo have ensured the BAFTAs are just as glamourous as ever. In fact, the BAFTAs are known in the industry for their more daring red carpet, often celebrating a more rebellious and unpredictable approach to fashion.
And from embroidered jackets to velvet gowns and the *ultimate* power suits, this year’s red carpet is serving all the fashion inspo we need for our ‘return to real life’ wardrobes. Basically, don’t be surprised if you see us in the local beer garden sporting a shimmering silver sequin dress a la Gugu Mbatha-Ra. After a year in PJs and loungewear, the 2021 BAFTAs red carpet is getting us excited for dressing up again.
