Tesco’s new blackberry gin is made with ‘cursed’ fruit

TESCO has started stocking a new blackberry gin to celebrate an old legend which says the fruit is cursed.

The new beverage, produced by Wildcat Gin, will be available in stores as well as on Amazon and in some bars and pubs, from September 29.

The story goes that the devil himself cursed the bramble bush in a fit of rage after landing on its prickly thorns in the autumn.

Since then, it’s said that no one should dare to consume brambles after September 29.

But Glasgow-based Wildcat Gin wants people to break the curse with its new bramble-inspired drink.

Wildcat Bramble is perfect for mixing and cocktails, giving a rich burst of berry flavour when drunk with tonic.

It can also be mixed with prosecco, and is 37.5 per cent ABV.

Gin fans can expect notes of blackberry, raspberry, hedgerow fruits and cherry for a sweet taste.

A 70cl bottle of Wildcat Bramble will cost £26 in Tesco, but for its launch, the drink has £5 off – and it’s also available on Tesco’s website.

Kenny Nicolson, brand manager at Wildcat Gin, said: “What better way to break an ancient curse than to drink a delicious gin cocktail? Wildcat Bramble is the perfect choice for anyone looking to explore a different side of gin.”

Wildcat Gin is inspired by Captain Dudley Bradstreet, an Irish man who exploited a loophole in the 18th century Gin Act by running a secret gin bar, letting customers know of his whereabouts by a black cat sign in his window.

And if you post a picture of your bottle of the new blackberry gin on Instagram between September 29 and October 31, and use the hashtag #wildcatbramble, you could be in with a chance of winning a limited edition Bramble box filled with gin, mixers, a glass and other goodies.

Fans of flavoured gin are spoilt for choice at the moment.

Beefeater also makes a blackberry flavoured gin, which is stocked at Tesco and costs £18.99.

Meanwhile, shoppers have spotted new cotton candy and parma violet flavoured gin liqueurs in Costco.

And Home Bargains sell a shimmery blood orange flavoured gin to add a zesty twist to your gin and tonic.
