Taylor Swift’s new album Lover has predictably topped the US album charts with massive first-week sales – even if it didn’t quite crack the 1 million mark like her last four albums.
However, Lover still accounted for 27% of all US album sales last week.
Not bad going!
The album – preceded by the hit singles ME! and You Need To Calm Down – reached 867,000 equivalent sales (which combines streaming and physical sales, among other metrics) in its first week on sale in America.
What’s more, this is actually the largest week of sales since Taylor’s last album came out!
Her last album Reputation debuted with 1.216 million in the same frame in 2017.
Her three albums before that – 2014’s 1989, 2012’s Red, 2010’s Speak Now – all sold in excess of 1 million in their first week. Her highest sales week was with 1989: it surpassed 1,287 million sales in its first week.
Lover has already reached number one in countries like the UK and Australia.
Taylor recently took to Twitter to describe Lover as an album that’s ‘very much a celebration of love, in all its complexity, coziness, and chaos, adding: ‘I couldn’t be more proud.’
Neither could we, Taylor.
