“If I was an EU citizen and we got less than two percent of the population vaccinated and looking at post-Brexit Britain with 11 percent of our population now vaccinated and moving ahead very rapidly,” the Tory MP said.
“This is a political issue for the European Union. I actually wrote to the Prime Minister well before Christmas looking ahead and seeing that developing countries, as your medical expert has pointed, out have no provision for the vaccine whatsoever.
“Urging the Prime Minister that as soon as we’ve completed our own vaccination we use our very generous foreign aid budget to ensure excess vaccines go out to developing countries.
“I didn’t expect that we would have to bail out the European Union but it seems we probably will.”
