Susanna Reid: 'I've been unfaithful' GMB host makes alcohol revelation

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 49, has lost one-and-a-half stone since ditching booze and snacks from her diet. Writing in the Sunday Times’ Style magazine, Susanna Reid told fans she had a “confession” to make about her alcohol-free lifestyle. “I should really put ‘stopped drinking’ in inverted commas,” she said. “Because since August 26, which is the day I decided to put an end to my relationship with alcohol, I haven’t been entirely dry. Confession: it’s a bit like the end of a relationship when you’re not quite ready say it’s really over.

“There are times you fall back into it,” she continued.

“I’ve been unfaithful to sobriety precisely eight times,” the ITV favourite admitted. “And I remember every single one (which makes a change from the way I used to drink).”

Susanna went on to detail the individual occasions she had returned to booze, including the day she and her Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan, 54, spent in the Beverly Hills Hotel after presenting the show from the Oscars.

“Leonardo DiCaprio was in disguise in the corner and it felt wrong not to mark the occasion,” she said. “If I wasn’t going to have a drink in LA after the world’s most glamorous night a the movies, when would I?”

Another time a friend talked her into some prosecco when she arrived on her doorstep with a bottle, and a third, Susanna said, was when she indulged in champagne at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Rome.

Nonetheless, the TV presenter said she feels much better since cutting alcohol from her diet.

“I am sleeping better. I don’t have hangxiety,”(sic) she said. “I don’t miss for a minute that fizzing in your body in the morning, which meant I couldn’t write relax the day after a big night out.

“I feel I’m more alert and focused. I don’t lose hours in the mornings and I’m not hangover-tired.”

The change hasn’t been without its downsides, Susanna explained, saying she is convinced friends think she is less fun and that she misses the social aspect of alcohol.

Susanna gave up drinking after being advised to lose 10lbs by her doctor as she was at the heavier end of her BMI.

The GMB star previously revealed there was more to the inspiration behind her decision to give up alcohol as she played coy about wild nights out with her celebrity pal Judge Rinder, 40, in Ibiza last summer.

Being cryptic about why she went teetotal, she told British GQ: “I can’t say what happened exactly, as it’s too personal. But we went big.

“I do miss the alcohol at times,” she continued. “You know, you’re at the Groucho Club, there;s a party, someone brings the shots and you’re just… whoo!

“But then there’s the shame. I’ve had some of my best worst moments after a drink, but I don’t miss the hangxiety.”(sic)

She also joked working with Piers makes it harder to stay away from the booze, quipping: “He makes not drinking harder!”

Susanna and Piers have worked together since she moved from the BBC to ITV in order to take her place at the GMB desk with the controversial broadcaster.
