Study shows which part of the UK has the best drivers – the answer may surprise you

Since the dawn of the motor car, people have taken pride in their ability behind the wheel and their skill in handling their four-wheeled pride and joy.

Now a new survey has revealed where the best and safest drivers in the UK are. The research, shared by the International Drivers Association, has revealed that the UK’s best drivers are in Yorkshire.

They said the county is known for having good quality and beautiful roads. As a result, they noted that it offers drivers a variety of driving experiences that build up a skill set to help them in any kind of condition.

What’s more, they also said that driving culture was a key part of the community in the county with locals taking pride in their ability behind the wheel.

This is reflected in the fact that the county took the top spot in a Dayinsure survey that emphasised Yorkshire’s drivers as having a reputation for being safe and responsible.

According to the survey’s results, 67 percent of Yorkshire’s residents said they had never undertaken illegally and over half had avoided in-car distractions such as smoking and eating food and drink.

Speaking about the results, Dominic Wyatt, of the International Drivers Association, said: “The quality of a region’s drivers is not just about the skill behind the wheel, but also the respect for the road, the vehicle, and the fellow drivers.

“Driving is not just about getting from point A to point B. It’s about doing it safely, responsibly, and with consideration for others.”

A spokesperson for Dayinsure said: “Nearly 40 percent of drivers in the North East, Yorkshire & The Humber region boast a clean record of always obeying speed limits, setting a standard for both highway and urban driving.”

And they attributed the high standards of driving to the county’s diverse heritage.

“The culture of Yorkshire has developed over the county’s history, influenced by the cultures of those who came to control/settle in the region, including the Celts, Romans, Angles, Vikings, Normans, and British Afro-Caribbean peoples.

“This rich cultural heritage has shaped the driving habits of the locals, making them some of the best drivers in the UK.”
