Strictly’s Dan Walker congratulates Sally Nugent on her new BBC Breakfast gig

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Dan Walker congratulated his co-host Sally Nugent on her new permanent position as a BBC Breakfast presenter.

The news was announced on Wednesday morning by the official BBC Breakfast Twitter account as they shared the exciting news of who would take the spot after Louise Minchin left the show last month.

They tweeted: “We are pleased to announce Sally Nugent will permanently join BBC Breakfast as a Presenter. Sally, an award-winning journalist for 25 years, will join Dan, Naga & Charlie waking you up on the UK’s No. 1 morning show.”

The 50-year-old presenter replied to the post online and added: “Delighted to confirm I’m joining @mrdanwalker permanently as co-presenter of @BBCBreakfast. Working with the best team in the business.”

After the news broke, the broadcast journalist was flooded with loving messages online and the doting dad-of-three made sure he was one of the first people to congratulate his new co-star as he tweeted out a touching message on Twitter.

He shared a touching tweet online to his new co-host online, which read: “I am so happy for @sallynugent. She is a brilliant presenter, massively popular with the team, an excellent journalist and a great friend.

“Hopefully we’ll have many happy years on the #BBCBreakfast sofa together. Oh … and she’s coming to #Strictly this weekend.”

But that wasn’t all, as Dan went on to congratulate Sally in between his dance rehearsals with his professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova just hours later.

While he updated his loyal legion of fans on his training lessons with Nadiya, Dan made sure to pass on a personal message to the mum-of-one ahead of her new journey with the man himself as he looks forward to many happy years working together.

He said: “We must also say congratulations to Sally Nugent. You [Nadiya] went on Breakfast on Tuesday and Sally, if you haven’t heard, is a new permanent presenter so she’s going to be with me from Monday to Wednesday.

“Hold on. She’s my professional partner now so … what happens to you?” he asked nervously.

To which the 32-year-old replied: “I’m your professional dance partner.”

“Yes, my PDP,” he quipped as they burst out laughing. “And we’ll be jiving this weekend.”

But he wasn’t the only person to pass on their positive messages to the new BBC Breakfast star, as fans and fellow colleagues passed on their well wishes for her new position.

Louise herself chimed in with: “Brilliant news, massive congratulations Sal. You are a fabulous journalist and wonderful, supportive friend. I am so pleased for you and the #BBCBreakfast team Xxx.”

One fan of the show penned: “Congratulations Sally – well deserved, and it’s good to see the BBC promoting from within rather than go head-hunting elsewhere.

“If the talent has been honed and nurtured within the organisation, it makes perfect sense to maintain the continuity.”
